According to the US Centers for Disease Control, we spend 2 trillion dollars per year to treat Americans. Three-quarters of this goes to treat preventable chronic diseases, and most of these diseases are linked to diet.

Health of the Animals
choose
Today, more than ever, it’s easier and more important to avoid foods from animals. Why would we want to do this? More than 1 million land farm animals are slaughtered every hour and the overwhelming majority of them are raised in factory farms where the goal is to raise as many animals as possible at the lowest cost and in the least amount of time and space. The result is extreme cruelty. Factory farm animals, for the most part, are not allowed to live normal lives or even see the light of day. Why not extract yourself from the meat industry altogether, and enjoy the bounty of plant-based foods? Veg-Appeal will show you how delicious and simple this can be!

Your Planet's Health

Raising animals for food is one of the leading causes of pollution and resource depletion today. Methane gas produced by farm animals, especially cows used for meat and milk, is 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide in trapping heat in the atmosphere. This is now calculated by scientists as contributing to 18% of global warming, which is 5% more than is attributed to all forms of transportation!*
In addition, the five tons of animal waste produced for every man, woman and child per year is alarmingly left untreated and in many instances causes spills of untreated animal waste directly into water ways to have an immediate environmental impact, particularly due to flooding and unintentional runoff. The results are devastating to our water quality, and to animals living in and around affected rivers.
The amount of water and food used to produce animals is wasteful and could be used to nourish humans directly. Feeding animals that are then fed to humans uses about 12-15 times the amount of energy than feeding people plants. Plant based eating helps to protect the environment, as well as helping to provide a sustainable food source for our earth’s growing population. It is also a part of a solution for the tragedies of human hunger.
As just one example of the planetary impact of our food choices, Michael Pollan reports that it takes 26 ounces of oil to make just one Big Mac, and 13 pounds of carbon are released into the atmosphere.
